Check to Make Sure You Avoid These Moving Mistakes with Other Moving Companies
We’ve talked about horror stories that people experience when they move, but what about the stories about people whose experiences aren’t necessarily horrific, but just not as good as it could be? Here are a few of our pet peeves and moving mistakes that we see all too often in other moving companies.
Undercutting the Quote (And Changing the Price Upon Delivery)
At On The Move, we’ve seen this time and time again. We spend a lot of time and energy creating a fair quote for a prospective client, only to have another company cut in and quote a significantly lower— and wildly inaccurate— price for the same work.
Naturally, the customer believes they’ve just gotten the deal of a lifetime and leaps at the lower price. Unfortunately, they find to their surprise that on the day of the move, the less reputable company jacks up the price— after the truck is loaded with all of their belongings.
Stick with a company that offers you a quote in writing, and remember— all too often, you get what you pay for.
Failure to Arrive When Scheduled
You’ve talked with your moving company, and you’ve agree that they should arrive at 8am Thursday morning. Come noon, and there’s still no sign of them. You’ve been frantically calling, and when you finally reach them, they don’t seem to be in a big hurry to get there.
At On The Move, we’re proud to report that we’re on time 99.9% of the time. That .1% is typically related to circumstances out of our control, such as weather, and if we’re not going to be where we said we’d be when we said we’d be there, we stay in constant communication with our customer. We work closely with our customers to ensure that our schedule is as hiccup-free as possible.
Over-promising and Under-delivering
Many moving companies schedule too many jobs per day, leaving someone high and dry at the last minute. If, for instance, a company promises three customers that they’ll be able to help them move on Saturday, but they know they’ve only got two moving teams on the schedule, they’re putting the third customer in a terrible position.
All too often, we get panicked phone calls from people who believed a less-than-reputable company when they said they’d show up on moving day. Unfortunately, we’re usually already booked. While we feel terrible that these people are left in the lurch, we have a clear understanding of our capacity, and we don’t want to let down our own customers.
