Are you a properly licensed moving company? What licenses does On The Move have to do moving?
We have our basic business license through the county and the state so yes, we are a licensed moving company. We also carry a US DOT number, which shows we’re registered with the Department of Transportation. Two main things you need are proper insurance coverages and registration with the states to carry across state lines. That’s a very important designation. If a company doesn’t have that, they aren’t qualified to haul across state lines.
How would a potential client know that you have that number? Is that something that you publish?
Yes, we publish the number on just about everything that we send out. It’s in our information packet, and any consumer can go on the US DOT website to confirm. Put our name in and our DOT number will pull up. It will say whether we’re registered or non-compliant at the time, and right now, of course we are registered.
How does a company become non-compliant?
If they did not update their information and their insurance certificates that they have, they can become non-compliant. Or if the government fined them for weigh station or log violations for their drivers, that can result in revoking their DOT. The important thing is to check any company you might do business with to ensure they are a licensed moving company. The last thing you want on your moving day is to discover a problem due to non-compliance.
